# Abdominal Wall

The **abdominal wall** encloses the abdominal cavity and consists of different layers.

These layers can be divided into five main parts : **skin**, **superficial fascia**,**
muscles**, **associated fascia**, and **parietal peritoneum**. These layers also
consist of more complicated sub-layers.

Thanks to the development of **ultrasonography **doctors are now capable of deciding
whether an abnormality is in the abdominal wall or inside the abdominal cavity.
