Erythropoietic protoporphyria (commonly called EPP) is a form of porphyria, which
varies in severity and can be very painful.

The cause is estimated to be a deficiency in the enzyme ferrochelatase, leading
to abnormally high levels of protoporphyrin in the red blood cells (erythrocytes),
plasma, skin, and liver.

EPP causes skin pain on exposure to sunlight, most often on the tops of the hands
and feet, face and ears. Pain can be severe and last days after sun exposure. There
may not be anything to see at the time. Prolonged exposure can result in some redness
and swelling, and uncommonly in blistering and crusting.

Basic traditional treatment includes avoiding the sun and UV light exposure, vitamin
D supplements, creams for tanning, and using protective clothing. However, for those
advanced cases, medical interference might be preferable especially if the kind
of treatment followed is laser-guided therapy.

Laser treatments have not been a problem in EPP people. But the doctor should be
made aware of the diagnosis, and that laser output that exceeds 650 nanometers might
be harmful. As such, a low-level therapy should be employed.

In comparison to surgical instruments that employ infrared wavelengths, the Portable
Surgery Laser System SIFLASER-1.21G uses ultra-blue light, which ensures high-level
performance due to the minimization of heat damage and its unique interaction with
haemoglobin.

What also makes this device special is that the total lack of water absorption helps
to drastically prevent warming of the surrounding tissues.

Because of the quick hemostasis provided by the Portable Surgery 532 nm Diode Laser
System 3 Watt [SIFLASER-1.21G](https://sifsof.com/product/portable-surgery-532-nm-diode-laser-system-3-watt-siflaser-1-21g/),
the operating region has optimal visibility.

Plus, the use of specific sterilizable fibres in contact surgery is meant to minimize
cross-infection while ensuring a clean and bloodless operational region.

EPP  is the most common Porphyria in children. It affects males and females in equal
numbers. It is estimated that the disorder occurs in about 1 in about 74,300 individuals.
acute porphyrias can be life-threatening if an attack isn’t promptly treated. Low-
level laser therapy is estimated to be among the most suitable kinds of treatment
for such delicate skin issues. The Portable Surgery Laser System SIFLASER-1.21G
from SIFSOF provides the exact needed low-level therapy with a painless treatment
and fast recovery chances.
