**A ** **transthoracic echo** **TTE **is a clinical procedure that’s done to evaluate
the structure and function of the heart. It is the most common noninvasive type
of echocardiogram, which uses high frequency soundwaves (ultrasound) to create a
moving picture of your heart through the chest wall.

### **Which ultrasound scanner is used for transthoracic echo TTE?**

The [SIFULTRAS-5.34](https://sifsof.com/product/linear-wireless-ultrasound-scanner-sifultras-5-34/)
provides real time imaging of all four chambers and all four valves. Other visible
structures on TTE include the aorta, the pericardium, pleural effusions, ascites,
and inferior vena cava.

TTE using ultrasound is done to examine suspected problems with the valves or chambers
of the heart, as well as the heart’s ability to pump blood. An important purpose
is to identify potential causes of stroke.

Moreover, the ultrasound device can detect weakness of the heart, cardiac tumors
and a variety of other findings can be diagnosed with a TTE.

With advanced measurements of the movement of the tissue with time, ultrasound can
measure diastolic function, fluid status, and ventricular dyssynchrony.

Plus, a linear color Doppler probe of 7.5 – 10 MHz helps physicians assess the overall
function of your heart, determine the presence of many types of heart disease and
to follow the progress of heart valve disease over time.

Consequently, to evaluate the effectiveness of medical or surgical treatment.

It aid them estimate the amount of blood pumped out of the left ventricle with each
heartbeat, evaluate heart size and heart valve function but also to identify areas
of poor blood flow in the heart and areas of heart muscle that are not contracting
normally. Enlargement/[hypertrophy ](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscle_hypertrophy)
of the heart and infiltration of the heart from an abnormal substance (eg amyloidosis).

Further, to examine previous injury to the heart muscle caused by impaired blood
flow or evidence of congestive heart failure as well.

A trained sonographer performs the test. A heart doctor ([cardiologist](https://sifsof.com/product-category/doctor-specialties/cardiologist/))
interprets the results.
