Haemophilia is a disorder that makes blood clotting hard. It’s caused by the lack of a protein responsible for clotting in the blood.
Continuous bleeding can be either internal or external. For example, when a person with haemophilia is wounded, the blood is unlikely to stop quickly or easily. This condition is mainly inherited.
In order to treat haemophilia, the clotting factors (i.e. the above-mentioned protein) should be injected into the patient’s veins.
Some patients with severe haemophilia receive regular injections (also called Prophylactic Therapy), while patients in less dangerous conditions are given the treatment only in case of an injury (called Demand Therapy).
This process is, therefore, 100% injection-based.
Despite the apparent simplicity of the treatment, it can easily become complicated in the cases of elderly patients, babies, patients with dark complexions or other skin conditions making the vein impossible to detect.
According to Cantor-Peled, Halak and Ovadia-Blechman (2016), “difficult venous access affects more than one-third of patients at hemophilia treatment centers.”
In this case, SIFVEIN vein detectors can make the whole treatment process way less complicated by providing a very effective solution to detect the needed veins.
SIFVEIN-2.1, for example, is a vein finder that has a near-infrared technology, which interacts with the blood color and illuminates the veins beneath the skin surface, making a visible vein map on the patient’s hand, arm, etc.
SIFVEIN provides a wide range of products (portable, desk type, head-mounted 3D, etc.) with different accessories, adaptable to the needs of both the doctor and the patient.
