Service Robots Utility in The Fight Against COVID-19

The COVID-19 disease has infected more than 87,000 people worldwide, with China accounting for 91% of cases. Globally the death toll has surpassed 3,000, according to the latest statistics from the World Health Organization. However, the dispersion of COVID-19 is not only a health concern but also an economic one.

A survey by the American Chamber of Commerce Shanghai found nearly half of the 109 companies polled in that city and metro area said lack of staff is their biggest challenge over the next few weeks, while two-thirds noted they don’t have sufficient staff to run a full production line.

The COVID-19 represent a real threat for the service industry workers whose labour is related to customer interaction, entertainment, sales or other service-oriented work.

If service workers in the infected countries are held in quarantines, airports, train stations, restaurants and many other public facilities will be completely shut down, causing a massive damage to the service sector, and the economy in general.

Amid this deteriorated situation, Artificially Intelligent Robots induce a great solution. A service robot can work autonomously providing a human-like service quality.

It can invade populated areas, such as restaurants and perfectly substitute waiters and waitresses without any fear of either being affected by the virus or by passing it to others.

For instance, The Humanoid Smart Catering Services Robot SIFROBOT-5.2 can can carry out reception duties, food and drinks delivery in hospitals, malls or airports.

This way, SIFSOF delivery robot can contribute in minimizing human-to-human contact, henceforth decreasing the risk of contamination. In addition, it creates an interactive shopping experience and provides consultative and informative explanations.

SIFROBOT-5.2’s maintenance is quite easy and economic. It’s also stable in performance, durable in lifetime and quite useful in enhancing the restaurant’s brand and makes highly usable during and post-medical crisis.
